get free or die tryin'.

it’s easy for me to go to bat for other folks. consistently, i tweet, share via facebook, email, and tumblr, etc. i’ve got friends who have paid bills and bought meds, gotten food, and everything you could imagine via crowdfunding on these here internets.

now, it’s my turn. and i’m kind of at a loss.

you see, i — not unlike many of you all out there on the interwebs — sometimes have a hard time asking for what i want/ need, even when it’s important. but i’m tired of hemming and hawing about it.

i need a new laptop. because i have a radio show that is broadcast via internet and i have site content to add… but i kinda can’t because i use other folks’ machines whenever possible. and because i simply cannot update a website from my ipod touch, no matter how convenient it is.

i need a new laptop because my job search is non-existent without a computer i can take to the library (there’s wireless internet there!) or anywhere else, so i can search and apply without interruption.

i need a new laptop because i’m a community educator and doula. a lot of the research i need to do? yup, you guessed it. internet-based. and most doulas i know utilize the internet to advertise their services and share information.

i need a new laptop because my old one needs fixing and by the time i get those repairs done, i coulda had a new one… and IBM clones are not that pricey. i’ve done my research. and though i want a macbook pro like nobody’s business, i am well aware of the fact that my needs do not necessarily include such a thing. though it would be nice. really, really, REALLY fucking nice.

i’m thinking, maybe 50 people giving $10. 

or $5 from 60 people and i come up with the rest via birthday money.

or i catch an ill sale at best buy.

whatever.

i need a computer. i’ve had ppl try to win them in online giveaways on my behalf.

i’ve even got my ear to the ground for some “throwaway” laptops from some well-to-do folks who like to have the newest/ biggest/ best just because. 

but that isn’t enough.

so, whatever you can give, y’all, i appreciate it. if all you’ve got is a signal boost, so be it.
